On July 26th of 2013 I officially opened up the shoppe for a preview to the public - it was exactly one year since I had made my first necktie. A few weeks earlier, a friend of mine mentioned a little storefront space that was opening on 8th St in downtown Fargo and suggested I consider moving my studio there. I decided to drop by before heading to work - which at the time meant driving to a local pizza shop to deliver pizza all night.
I walked up to a small beige building with a bright teal door and huge hand written "4 Rent" sign in the window. I peered into the big front window to see the most charming little space I could have ever imagined, complete with vintage light fixtures and high ceilings, it truly felt like this shop was meant for me and AENDEE.
I called the number that was so delicately hand drawn on the poster and set up an appointment to meet Lee, my future landlord. It is hard to describe the rush that comes with this kind of decision to just "go for it". I'm sure the excitement is similiar to buying your first house, walking down the aisle, or skydiving ... except this rush was 100% unexpected and unplanned, which made those first few weeks all the more of a whirlwind.
I was still 24 years old when I was handed the keys to my very own store, I turned 25 a few weeks later and celebrated at the shoppe with some close friends and family. I will always look back on those first months of starting AENDEE with the kind of nostalgia you get from certain songs you loved in highschool, or movies you have seen a million times. I was so overwhelmed with support and love from everyone around me. It is honestly because of all of that love and support that AENDEE is still going strong today.
Two years later AENDEE is still growing. I had no idea what to expect from taking a leap and trying my hand at entrepreneurship. I've learned so many lessons along the way and have new ideas and dreams for the future every day - I really am just getting started with this endeavor and I just wanted to take a moment to share my gratitude for everyone who has supported me along the way.
Happy Birthday AENDEE!
AENDEE named Martha Stewart American Made Finalist!
